And when a little help was required, Broadbents discovered that TaxCalc’s Support team was very effective.
So, what would Simon tell fellow accountants dissatisfied with their software but reluctant to make the move away?
“Take the step – don't be nervous. The support is there and it’s not as dramatic as you might fear,” he says.
When seeking an alternative, the firm settled on TaxCalc, which had that “modern feel” Simon and his team wanted.
“We had seen TaxCalc over the past few years and liked the look of it,” he says.

Downloading updates is also far quicker now, Simon says.
“With TaxCalc, an update takes just two or three minutes – whereas with CCH it would take a whole morning!”
And the switch also significantly reduced costs for the business.
“We saved £18,000 – that's gone straight onto the bottom line,” Simon says.
“Our transition was smooth, it was much better than expected,” Simon says.
“We had virtually no downtime and were literally up and running straight away.”
And how about the support provided by TaxCalc’s onboarding team?
“It was great to have TaxCalc’s support. They extracted the trial balance from every client – and that took about two minutes for each one. The mapping was already there; there were some gaps, but these were easy to deal with.
“We had to seek out and use technical support when dealing with transitional periods – but the support was phenomenal.”
